Ready to slow down?

Contemplation

We invite you to the practice of contemplation here at Lakeland Community Church. A chance to slow your pace, tune in, and fully participate in God’s active presence.

What is CONTEMPLATION?

Contemplation is more about “uncluttering and uncovering” than adding—it allows us to become more aware and attuned to The Kingdom. The core of contemplation is love, which is why the contemplative life is fundamentally missional. To cultivate a contemplative life, we integrate these practices: silence and solitude, breath prayers, prayer beads, Lectio Divina, and Visio Divina.

Contemplative Practices

As one of our core values, we understand the importance of establishing a rhythm of contemplation. Everyone needs a rhythm of quiet and peace, an unhurried rest to give life rich meaning.

WAYS TO SLOW DOWN AT LAKELAND COMMUNITY CHURCH

We will be taking contemplative walks on a trail about once a month. We will start each walk with a brief reading to inspire contemplation and then take a walk along the trail, with a few minutes to journal your thoughts and pray with the group.

No obligation to come to every event, and you are welcome to bring a friend. We are looking forward to the inspiration of God’s creation and to a time to listen for the Spirit to speak into our lives.

As part of Lakeland Community’s “At the Well” Women’s Ministry, we help women create a rhythm of life that deepens and grows a more consistent connection to God (abide).

We do this by providing a safe environment for women to connect with God and experience transformation through the spiritual discipline of solitude and silence as a community.

This contemplative retreat is designed for those who are new to the practice of contemplation, as well as for veterans seeking space for personal growth and reflection. For more information about Encountering Contemplation go here.

Our Sunday gathering is our powerful opportunity to live out our calling as a royal priesthood through prayer. We actively intercede for both our local community in Lakeland and the Church Universal, making our spiritual sacrifices of thanksgiving and dedication.

Through these intentional prayers and the sacrament of communion, we ask that Christ’s presence be known among us, fulfilling the holy work entrusted to us. This sacred rhythm is how we become a profound blessing, not just for ourselves, but for the wider world.

Pastor Emeritus Dan Wilburn’s contemplative ministry.

Lectio Divina is a simple but powerful rhythm of engaging with Scripture.

Together, we move through four movements: reading the passage slowly, reflecting through journaling, responding in prayer, and resting in contemplation.

This practice helps us encounter God’s Word with both heart and mind; seeing it, writing it, and speaking it at different paces and depths.
