Our Story

Learn More About Lakeland Community Church

Lakeland Community Church began in 1995 in the living room of Dan and Laurie Wilburn. Dan and Laurie wanted to create a church for people who didn’t go to church.

They envisioned a place where people who didn’t know the drill, the language, the rituals, and the stories could come and hear the life-changing message of Jesus in a way they could understand and apply to their lives.

This has remained our mission and our church’s vision at Lakeland Community.

A Brief History Of Lakeland Community Church

  • October 13, 1996: Our first public service is held in the Savannah Grill and Magnolia Room Banquet Hall with around 200 people present.

  • 2000: We outgrew our banquet hall and took over seven movie theaters at the former Dickinson’s EastGlen 16 (now B&B Theatres). We hosted coffee in the lobby and even added a family ministry for children.

  • Fall 2005: Lakeland Community Church moved into its current location at 913 NE Colbern Rd., the former All Star sports arena. We remodeled the arena, turning it into our permanent home, complete with an indoor athletic field and plenty of room for continued growth.

  • 2006: We felt a calling to reimagine our church by nurturing the core, divine presence of God for spiritually seeking people. We now offer a framework for our members’ faith journeys that feels deeper, richer, and more vibrant than ever.
