Kelly Johnston  Pastoral Assistant

My family moved around a lot so I proudly call St. Louis, Cape Girardeau and Kansas City my hometowns.

During college, I worked at Camp Galilee, a United Methodist Church Camp. This job is where I learned to work hard, be a leader and also how to remove snakes from various cabin crevices.  I attended college at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO, earning a Bachelors Degree in Nonprofit Administration. I also have a teaching certificate in Early Childhood Education. After graduating, I moved back to Kansas City, married my husband and started working as a Children and Youth Minister and also teaching preschool. I have been on staff at Lakeland since 2015 and continue to teach preschool in Kansas City, Missouri.

Personal Memory

When I was 5 years old, my parents loaded my brother and myself in our minivan and drove down to Gulf Shores, Alabama. Vacations in our family were a rare occurrence, so this trip was a big deal. I remember swimming in the ocean for the first time and running from crabs and jellyfish. We fed seagulls, ate chips right out of the bag and laughed a lot. It was the perfect vacation.

Camping and hiking with my family, reading, playing with my children and watching movies with my husband
